Originally drafted as a third baseman, he transitioned to catcher and played five seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He earned New York-Penn League All-Star honors in his first year behind the plate and went on to compete professionally throughout the East Coast and in Venezuela. Coach Pat Wagner ✝ & Coach Cathie Twomey Bellamy
For almost a decade, Cathie Twomey Bellamy and Pat Wagner worked together to make Marist Catholic High School one of the most respected – and formidable – track and field and cross-country programs in the state. As co-head coaches in track and field from 1999 to 2008, Cathie and Pat ran a positive, inclusive program that influenced hundreds of athletes while winning multiple district and state championships. In cross country, with Cathie as head coach and Pat as assistant, they led and inspired the Spartans to an impressive list of championships and awards from 2000 to 2007. It was a relationship of mutual respect, trust and humor. Together Pat, the Marist biology teacher, and Cathie, with a background of professional running and adult coaching, mentored and shaped athletes, deeply affecting their lives at Marist and thereafter. Theirs was not a traditional boys-coach/girls-coach program. In track, Cathie coached the runners from 400 meters up, and the 4x400 relay. Pat had the sprinters and the 4x100. And they featured a staff of gifted assistant coaches: Doug Appel, javelin; Toni Cooper, jumps and javelin; Jose da Silva, horizontal jumps; Mike Dotson, throws; Chris Hayward-Mayhew, high jump; and Jo Turner and Denise Thomas, hurdles. The girls track and field team won back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006 and won five league titles while finishing second twice. The team trophies included state titles from Laundrea da Silva ‘06 in the 100m in both years, a 4x100 victory from da Silva, Kate Wilkins ‘08, Elena Collins ‘08 and Emily (Collins) Antonishen ’05 in 2005, and a triple jump win in 2005 and a high jump win in 2006 from Emily Gillespie ’06. Both state championships came down to wins in the 4x400 for teams that featured the Collins sisters, Tahne Apo ‘09, Brenn Donnelly ’07 and multi-event star Gillespie. Meanwhile, the boys won four league titles, finished second twice and placed second in state in 2002 and 2005. The boys first-ever state championship arrived two years later, in 2007, when a massive second-day rally that involved virtually every aspect of the team came down to the 4x400m relay team of David Dillow ‘07, Michael Bellamy ‘08, Matt Hollander ’08 and Nate Dillow ‘07 needing to win the final event — and doing so. In cross country, the Spartans were also impressive. The boys won five league titles, finished second in state once, third three times and fourth another. The girls won a league title, finished third in state once and fourth twice. After the 2008 season, Cathie retired to follow her youngest son’s high school baseball career. But Pat continued in the same roles with Chase Wells for another 12 years and was part of three state championships in cross country and one state championship in track and field and multiple second-place finishes in both the boys and girls programs. Pat Wagner and Cathie Twomey Bellamy were nominated by Josh Reay ’12 and Nick Stiltner ’07. |

1998 & 1999 Volleyball State Champions
The 1998 Volleyball team began the 7-year league championship run for the Marist volleyball program. The team lost only one league game, finished 35-3 overall, and won Marist's first volleyball state championship in 19 years. The following year, the 1999 team was undefeated in league play and won a second state championship for coach Shari Pimental, who is now in her 35th year as head coach. These accomplishments are unsurprising when you know the awards won by individuals on the team. In the 1998 season, Jamie (Coldren) Ayers '99 was named 3A Player of the Year, and along with Casey (Evans) Carlson '00, received 1st Team All-Tourney and 1st Team All-League. Nicole Gesik '00 made 2nd Team All-League, and Megan Grillo '01 and Megan (Kitterman) Schendel '01 received Honorable Mentions. In the 1999 season, Casey was named 3A Player of the year, and along with Jamie and Nicole, received 1st Team All-League honors, and Megan Kitterman and Megan Grillo received Honorable Mentions. Casey and Jamie received 1st Team All-State honors, and Nicole and Megan (Kitterman) Schendel received 2nd Team All-State honors. Shari Pimental was awarded Coach of the Year for the 1999 season. The 1998 & 1999 State Championship Teams were nominated by Shari Pimental, Marist coach and counselor. |
